John Brouwer
After studying Civil Engineering, John began training as a chief meteorologist at KNMI, the Royal Dutch Meteorological institute (KNMI), in De Bilt in 1985. After studying for three years, he started working as an aviation meteorologist at KNMI at Schiphol Airport, making weather forecasts for the Dutch airspace. After that, John also taught at aviation and nautical schools in the Netherlands.
For the nautical schools, he and former colleague Henk Huizinga wrote the book ‘Maritieme Meteorologie’ in 2006, which was translated into English in 2023. These books are now used by all nautical schools in the Netherlands along with an accompanying teaching package for teachers. Because of his work at KNMI, the book is always updated with the latest meteorological insights.
Again together with Henk Huizinga, John wrote the book ‘Luchtvaartmeteorologie’ with an accompanying teaching package for teachers in 2019.
John regularly provides training for various maritime and aviation training centres.
